Ministry of Environment Holds Largest Exhibition, Focuses on Plastic Issues

Enviro News Asia, Jakarta — The Ministry of Environment and the Environmental Control Agency (KLH/BPLH) will hold the 2025 World Environment Day Exhibition from Sunday to Tuesday, June 22–24, at the Assembly Hall of the Jakarta International Convention Center (JICC).

This event is part of a series of World Environment Day commemorations, which were previously centered at Kuta Beach, Bali, on June 5, 2025.

With the theme “Beat Plastic Pollution,” this year’s exhibition is expected to serve as a key moment to drive behavioral change in society and foster cross-sectoral collaboration in tackling the increasingly urgent plastic waste crisis.

“The waste crisis is critical and has gained the President’s attention. To achieve the target of a waste-free Indonesia by 2029, we need a collective awareness from all sectors of the nation,” said Sayid Muhadar, Director of Coastal and Marine Pollution and Environmental Degradation Control, as quoted in the official release from the Ministry of Environment.

Sayid emphasized that plastic waste management is a national priority issue. Through this exhibition, KLH/BPLH invites all elements of society to actively participate in efforts to end plastic pollution and protect environmental sustainability. Protecting the Earth, he said, is not just the government’s duty, but the responsibility of all generations.

More than 100 participants from various sectors will take part in the exhibition, including private companies, state-owned enterprises, local governments, professional associations, community organizations, educational institutions, and non-governmental organizations.

This wide-ranging participation reflects that environmental preservation efforts are now a shared responsibility, not just a government initiative.

The exhibition will showcase various innovations and solutions in waste management, environmentally friendly technologies, and renewable energy.

Additionally, seminars, discussion forums, and workshops will be held to address strategic issues such as the implementation of the PROPER program, the use of artificial intelligence in environmental education, and public discussions on reducing plastic waste.

Upholding the “less waste” principle, all activities in the exhibition will be managed using environmentally friendly approaches, including minimizing single-use plastics and implementing responsible waste management systems.

The exhibition is open to the general public and families, featuring a variety of educational and interactive activities.

These include a fun walk around the Gelora Bung Karno area, a children’s drawing competition, a photography contest, a music competition using recycled instruments (“HLH Idol”), and an “Eco-Chic” fashion show promoting the concept of sustainable fashion. (*)
