Pertamina EP Greening 6.3 Hectares of Watershed Areas

Enviro News Asia, Jakarta – Pertamina EP and SKK Migas had the honor of hosting the National Simultaneous Tree Planting Program organized by the Ministry of Forestry across Indonesia on Tuesday (January 14, 2025).

Held at Mount Tilu in Girimukti Village, Kasokandel Subdistrict, Majalengka Regency, West Java, 250 fruit trees were planted by the Deputy Minister of Forestry, Sulaiman Umar, accompanied by the Head of Forestry Services, Acting Regent of Majalengka, the Head of Formalities Division of SKK Migas, and the President Director of Pertamina EP.

This tree planting initiative, initiated by the Ministry of Forestry, is part of the National One Million Trees Movement Day, commemorated every January 10. The activity spanned more than 100 planting locations across 37 provinces in Indonesia. The event in Majalengka was virtually connected to a main event led by the Minister of Forestry, Raja Juli Antoni, in East Nusa Tenggara.

Deputy Minister of Forestry Sulaiman Umar, who led the planting, stated that this activity is part of collective efforts to restore critical land to support food, energy, and water security programs while reducing the potential for hydrometeorological disasters.

“This is one of the Government’s tangible efforts in undertaking massive rehabilitation to restore 12.7 million hectares of degraded forests and land,” Sulaiman said.

The tree planting activity also reinforced Pertamina EP’s commitment to completing the Watershed Rehabilitation (DAS) program as part of the obligations under the Forest Area Utilization Permit (PPKH) granted by the Government.

Since 2023, Pertamina EP has rehabilitated a total of 6.3 hectares of watershed areas. “To date, we have planted 9,942 trees. Our target is to plant 10,718 trees gradually on 23 hectares of land by 2028,” said Pertamina EP President Director Wisnu Hindadari.

Wisnu added that tree planting is integrated into Pertamina EP’s overall business processes. “This effort supports environmental sustainability, particularly by reducing carbon emissions released into the atmosphere,” he emphasized.

The tree planting activity in Girimukti, Majalengka, fully involved the local community as implementers. The selected trees were productive fruit-bearing plants such as mango, petai, avocado, and jackfruit, which provide economic benefits to the community, enabling them to manage and utilize the yields.
