Pertamina NRE Ensures Clean Energy Supply During Eid

Enviro News Asia, Jakarta – Pertamina and New Renewable Energy (PNRE) or Pertamina NRE have ensured a smooth supply of electricity from clean energy sources during the Eid al-Fitr 1446 Hijri holiday. This was stated by Pertamina NRE’s Director of Projects and Operations, Norman Ginting, during the Pertamina NRE Commanders Call at the Jawa-1 Gas and Steam Power Plant (PLTGU).

“In line with Pertamina NRE’s business focus, we are committed to providing low-carbon clean energy for the community,” he said in a statement received on Wednesday (April 3, 2025).

During the Eid holiday, he continued, Pertamina NRE ensures that the supply of clean energy-based electricity remains uninterrupted. This allows the public to enjoy the Eid celebrations comfortably.

The Commanders Call event aims to ensure the operational readiness of all Pertamina NRE power plants spread across various regions. Norman added that in providing clean electricity, Pertamina NRE collaborates with PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (Persero) or PLN. The clean electricity supplied to the public through PLN comes from geothermal power plants (PLTP) operated by Pertamina NRE’s subsidiary, PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk (PGE).

Currently, PGE operates six work areas with a total installed capacity of 672 megawatts (MW), namely Kamojang, Karaha, Ulubelu, Lumut Balai, Sibayak, and Lahendong. Additionally, through its affiliate company, PT Jawa Satu Power (JSP), Pertamina NRE also manages a Gas and Steam Power Plant (PLTGU) with a capacity of 1,760 MW. This plant supplies liquefied natural gas (LNG)-based electricity to the Java-Bali system via PLN.

The black start technology used allows for faster recovery in case of a blackout. Furthermore, Pertamina NRE also operates a biogas power plant (PLTBg) to supply clean electricity to industries in the Sei Mangkei Special Economic Zone (KEK) in North Sumatra, with an installed capacity of 2.4 MW.

Within the Pertamina Group, Pertamina NRE supports the utilization of clean electricity through solar power plants (PLTS) in various Pertamina operational areas, including the Rokan oil and gas work area, with an installed capacity of 25 MW. PLTS has also been installed at the Dumai, Plaju, Balongan, Cilacap, and Balikpapan refineries, with a total capacity of over 10 MW. Additionally, PLTS is used in fuel terminals, LPG terminals, office buildings, and Pertamina residential complexes. The total installed capacity of Pertamina NRE’s PLTS currently reaches 52 MW.
