Pertamina Strengthens Energy Infrastructure in Maluku

Enviro News Asia, Ambon — PT Pertamina (Persero) is strengthening the reliability of its energy infrastructure in Maluku to support energy distribution, air connectivity and growing economic activity across eastern Indonesia.

The company operates several key facilities in Ambon, including the Wayame Integrated Terminal (IT Wayame) and Pattimura Aviation Fuel Terminal (AFT Pattimura), which form important parts of the region’s energy supply chain.

IT Wayame supports the distribution of various energy products in Maluku, including liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). LPG from the terminal is transported to the Ambon LPG Filling and Transportation Station (SPBE), where it is filled into cylinders before being distributed to consumers through the supply network.

Meanwhile, AFT Pattimura supplies aviation turbine fuel (avtur) for around 15 flights operating through Pattimura Airport each day. The facility has also achieved a Gold rating under Indonesia’s environmental performance assessment program, PROPER.

Pertamina Director of Risk Management Ahmad Siddik Badruddin inspected the two facilities during a management walkthrough in Ambon on September 3, 2026. The visit assessed asset conditions, safety standards and operational readiness.

At the LPG supply chain, Ahmad reviewed the distribution process from IT Wayame to the SPBE facility and the subsequent filling of LPG cylinders. He also discussed operational procedures with SPBE management.

“We saw in detail how LPG is distributed and filled into cylinders ready for delivery. The SPBE is well managed by a third party, operates safely and complies with Pertamina Patra Niaga’s SOPs,” Ahmad said.

At AFT Pattimura, the management team reviewed operational activities, asset conditions and areas that could be strengthened to maintain the facility’s performance in supporting aviation demand.

Ahmad said the terminal’s Gold PROPER achievement reflected strong environmental management standards, while several operational recommendations would be followed up by the field team.

Pertamina Regional Papua Maluku Executive General Manager Awan Raharjo said the region’s island geography makes asset reliability and long-term capacity planning essential to maintaining continuous energy distribution.

The company is assessing capacity requirements over three-, five- and ten-year periods, taking into account potential growth in economic activity and energy demand across eastern Indonesia.

“We see the importance of maintaining asset integrity to ensure the continuity of energy distribution in the Papua-Maluku region. Capacity expansion also needs to be planned carefully so reliability, capacity and services can keep pace with changing demand,” Awan said.

The infrastructure planning is also being linked to emerging growth centers, including the food estate development in South Papua, the Masela Project in Maluku and industrial activities in North Maluku.

Pertamina said maintaining asset integrity and planning future capacity are intended to ensure that its energy infrastructure can accommodate rising community and industrial demand while supporting economic growth opportunities in eastern Indonesia. (*)
