Pertamina Strengthens Government Synergy to Advance National Energy Security

Enviro News Asia, Yogyakarta — PT Pertamina (Persero) is strengthening cooperation with the Indonesian government and relevant ministries and institutions to advance strategic energy programs, ranging from increasing oil and gas production and strengthening energy supply chains to developing biofuels and geothermal energy.

The collaboration was highlighted during the Sinergi Ketahanan Energi Nusantara event held in Yogyakarta on August 13, 2026. The initiative is aimed at maximizing domestic energy resources, reducing dependence on imports and ensuring reliable energy supplies across Indonesia.

Pertamina President Commissioner Mochamad Iriawan said strong coordination between Pertamina and the government is essential to ensure that strategic energy programs are implemented effectively. He emphasized the importance of a “one team, one objective” approach to ensuring energy availability across Indonesia at efficient costs and in accordance with applicable regulations.

Government support, he added, is also important for creating an investment environment that can accelerate energy development and increase national production. Faster processes, according to Iriawan, can contribute to higher production, greater investment and stronger national energy security.

Deputy Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/Deputy Head of the National Land Agency Ossy Dermawan said national energy security cannot be achieved by a single institution. Cooperation among stakeholders is needed to ensure that energy infrastructure development proceeds efficiently, orderly, fairly and sustainably.

He highlighted spatial planning, land availability and legal certainty concerning land and assets as important factors in supporting the development of national energy infrastructure.

Pertamina Deputy President Director Oki Muraza said government cooperation is also essential to accelerate the company’s strategic agenda, including oil and gas exploration, production growth and the development of lower-carbon energy.

In the upstream sector, Pertamina is continuing to optimize domestic oil and gas potential, including unconventional oil and gas resources estimated at more than 11 billion barrels. The company is also expanding biofuel development to reduce dependence on fuel imports while strengthening geothermal energy as a domestic clean-energy source.

Pertamina Vice President of Corporate Communication Muhammad Baron emphasized that cross-sector collaboration is essential to building a stronger national energy ecosystem. The company aims to optimize its integrated business operations from upstream to downstream while increasing the use of domestic energy resources and strengthening supply chains.

The broader strategy is expected to support Indonesia’s energy independence, improve energy availability for communities across the country and generate wider economic benefits. (*)
