Enviro News Asia, Jakarta — PT PLN Energi Primer Indonesia (PLN EPI), a subsidiary of PLN, implemented its Clean Energy Day program in Jakarta on 28 April 2026 to encourage energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions. The initiative takes place every Friday and involves all employees and outsourced personnel across the company.
The program forms part of the government’s broader strategy to support energy transition and respond to global energy supply challenges. PLN EPI plays a key role in ensuring efficient energy use while maintaining sustainable operations within the national electricity ecosystem.
Director of Human Capital Management and Administration at PLN EPI, Dedeng Hidayat, stated that the transition to clean energy depends not only on technological advancements but also on behavioral change. He emphasized that achieving the Net Zero Emission 2060 target requires consistent daily actions from individuals.
He explained that Clean Energy Day encourages employees to adopt more responsible energy consumption habits. Every Friday, staff are advised to avoid using fuel-based vehicles and instead utilize public transportation, electric vehicles, cycling, or walking. Employees are also asked to record their travel data to measure emission reductions and fuel efficiency.
According to internal estimates, the program has the potential to reduce carbon emissions by up to 45.7 tons of CO2 equivalent annually. This reduction is comparable to saving approximately 18.8 kiloliters of fuel or the carbon absorption capacity of 500 mangrove trees over 20 years.
Dedeng added that the initiative reflects a broader cultural transformation within the company, promoting discipline, efficiency, and accountability in energy use.
Through Clean Energy Day, PLN EPI aims to demonstrate that meaningful progress toward sustainable energy begins with small but consistent actions taken by individuals. (*)
