Positive Achievements in 2025 Reflect State Commitment to Meeting Public Energy Needs

Enviro News Asia, Jakarta — In line with the Asta Cita vision of President Prabowo Subianto, Indonesia’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) reported positive achievements throughout 2025, underscoring the state’s commitment to ensuring energy security and meeting public demand.

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia said that despite significant challenges during the year, the government remained present and responsive in achieving national energy targets. Speaking at the 2025 ESDM Sector Performance Press Conference in Jakarta on Thursday, Bahlil emphasized that challenges served as momentum to strengthen state responsibility in delivering energy services to the public.

Indonesia’s crude oil lifting in 2025 reached 605.3 thousand barrels per day, equivalent to 100.05 percent of the state budget target. Meanwhile, natural gas lifting averaged 951.8 thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day, slightly below the APBN target of 1,005 thousand barrels. Nevertheless, all domestic gas demand in 2025 was supplied entirely from national production, with no gas imports recorded.

Of the total 5,600 billion British thermal units per day (BBTUD) of gas produced, 69 percent was utilized for domestic needs, including downstream industries, power generation, city gas networks, LNG, LPG, and fuel gas. The remaining 31 percent was allocated for export.

Another notable achievement was the realization of Non-Tax State Revenue (PNBP), which reached Rp138.37 trillion, or 108.56 percent of the 2025 APBN target. This revenue was generated from mineral and coal resources, geothermal energy, and other ESDM-related services.

Investment in the ESDM sector totaled USD31.7 billion in 2025, comprising USD18 billion in oil and gas, USD6.7 billion in minerals and coal, USD4.6 billion in electricity, and USD2.4 billion in new and renewable energy. To further boost investment, the government will assign PT PLN (Persero) to accelerate power plant development under the national electricity supply plan.

Renewable energy continued to expand, with the energy mix reaching 15.75 percent in 2025 and installed renewable capacity rising to 15,630 megawatts—the highest annual addition in the past five years. In parallel, the mandatory B40 biodiesel program exceeded its target, reducing diesel imports and generating significant economic and environmental benefits.

Electricity consumption per capita increased to 1,584 kilowatt-hours, while national installed power capacity grew by 7 gigawatts year-on-year to 107.51 gigawatts. Through the Village Electrification Program and the New Electricity Connection Assistance scheme, more than 283,000 households gained access to electricity during 2025.

Bahlil reaffirmed the government’s commitment to achieving full village electrification by 2029–2030, emphasizing that electricity access represents a tangible form of state presence and social responsibility. Throughout 2025, the ESDM sector also absorbed more than 871,000 workers, reinforcing its role in supporting employment and inclusive economic growth. (*)
