RCCs Strengthen Country-Focused Climate Action, Support 83 Nations in 2025

Enviro News Asia, Bonn — The UN Climate Change Regional Collaboration Centres (RCCs) intensified efforts to accelerate global climate action by sharpening country-focused support, according to the RCCs Annual Report 2025.

Throughout 2025, RCCs provided tailored technical and advisory assistance to help governments translate their national climate commitments into concrete actions. Support focused on key areas including mitigation, adaptation, carbon markets, and carbon pricing, particularly in advancing Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), National Adaptation Plans (NAPs), long-term strategies, and readiness for Paris Agreement Article 6.

Executive Secretary of UN Climate Change, Simon Stiell, emphasized the critical role of RCCs in bridging global climate frameworks with on-the-ground implementation. He stated that RCCs serve as conveners, catalysts, and facilitators, helping countries enhance climate action and unlock benefits for millions of people worldwide.

In 2025, RCCs directly supported 83 countries across six regions by delivering technical assistance, strengthening institutional capacity, and facilitating partnerships. They also contributed to major global and regional events such as Climate Weeks, NDC Clinics, technical dialogues, and national workshops, ensuring alignment between international negotiations and local implementation.

The report highlights a strategic shift toward more targeted, country-driven support based on comprehensive needs assessments. This approach enables RCCs to better address specific national priorities and challenges, while improving coordination among governments, development banks, regional organizations, and private sector partners.

Additionally, RCCs played an increasing role in facilitating access to climate finance by helping countries develop investment-ready project pipelines and strengthening collaboration across the UN system and financial institutions.

Looking ahead to 2026, RCCs will continue prioritizing implementation by supporting countries in turning climate plans into actionable and fundable projects, enhancing access to finance, and strengthening participation in United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change processes.

Operating through partnerships with regional host institutions, RCCs currently support 143 countries worldwide, reinforcing their role as a vital bridge between global climate agreements and real-world outcomes. (*)
