Telkom Employees Lead Mangrove Planting Initiative to Support Coastal Conservation

Enviro News Asia, Jakarta — PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk strengthened its commitment to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles through the “Earth Mission – Mangrove Chapter,” conducted recently at the Angke Kapuk Protected Forest in North Jakarta. The initiative engaged around 100 employee volunteers from multiple business units as part of the Telkom Employee Voluntrip Day series, aiming to contribute to coastal ecosystem preservation and enhance local community wellbeing through conservation and educational activities.

The program, organized in collaboration with Telkom Connect, Witel Jakarta Centrum, and local community partners, was attended by Telkom Regional II Executive Vice President Edie Kurniawan, Telkom Connect Advisor Kuncoro Wastuwibowo, Witel Jakarta Centrum General Manager Muskab Muzakkar, and representatives of the North Jakarta municipal government. The event reinforced Telkom’s dedication to protecting mangrove ecosystems in the northern coastal region of the capital. Beyond its environmental purpose, the initiative also served as a platform for strengthening the company’s BISA values—Bravery, Integrity, Service Excellence, and Agility—and promoting cross-unit collaboration with community members.

Mangroves play a critical role in maintaining ecological balance, social resilience, and economic sustainability in coastal regions. Ecologically, mangroves act as natural barriers against shoreline abrasion, tidal waves, and seawater intrusion. Their dense root systems stabilize soil, prevent erosion, and support diverse marine species by providing breeding grounds and habitat. Mangrove forests also serve as effective carbon sinks, storing significantly more carbon than tropical terrestrial forests.

In his remarks, EVP Regional II Edie Kurniawan emphasized that the Earth Mission Mangrove Chapter represents more than a planting event—it symbolizes long-term hope for environmental restoration. He expressed appreciation for the volunteers’ commitment and encouraged participants to make the initiative a lasting contribution to environmental stewardship.

Telkom Connect Advisor Kuncoro Wastuwibowo highlighted the importance of employee unity and community engagement, noting that small actions such as mangrove planting can play a strategic role in supporting the company’s broader mission and sustainable ecosystem growth.

Witel Jakarta Centrum GM Muskab Muzakkar acknowledged the strong enthusiasm of the participants, which exceeded the initial target of 100 volunteers. He expressed hope that such momentum would help ensure the successful implementation of the mangrove planting activity and contribute meaningfully to the resilience of North Jakarta’s coastal areas.
