Enviro News Asia, Ankara — Türkiye has enacted amendments to the Soil Protection and Land Use Law and several related laws to strengthen the agricultural sector, improve sustainability, and provide a stronger legal framework for maximizing the country’s agricultural potential.
Agriculture and Forestry Minister İbrahim Yumaklı announced that the legislation, which was approved by the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, has entered into force following its publication in the Official Gazette.
Yumaklı said the new legal framework aims to reinforce the structural foundations of the agricultural sector while introducing reforms centered on environmental protection and sustainable resource management.
According to the minister, the legislation supports Türkiye’s long-term development vision and seeks to align the agricultural sector with global trends by promoting a more resilient, sustainable, and dynamic structure.
“Under the goals of the Century of Türkiye, we are placing strategic steps that will maximize our agricultural potential under legal protection while transforming the sector into a more sustainable and dynamic structure compatible with our global vision,” Yumaklı said.
He described the legislation as a milestone that will shape not only current agricultural policies but also the future development of a stronger and more competitive agricultural sector.
Yumaklı said the reforms are designed to leave a lasting legacy for future generations by strengthening the sector’s structural dynamics and implementing innovations that place environmental considerations at the center of agricultural development.
The minister also expressed appreciation to lawmakers and ministry officials involved in drafting and approving the legislation, noting that the process required extensive work and careful deliberation.
The law is expected to support Türkiye’s broader efforts to enhance food security, improve land management, and ensure sustainable agricultural growth while preserving natural resources for future generations. (*)
