Enviro News Asia, Madiun — The Faculty of Forestry of Universitas Lambung Mangkurat (ULM) has deployed 228 students to take part in the 2026 Plantation Forest Practicum at the Perhutani Forestry Institute (PeFI) in Madiun, East Java, from 11 to 17 January 2026. The program aims to strengthen practice-based learning and enhance students’ field competencies in sustainable forest management.
A total of 228 forestry students, accompanied by seven lecturers, participated in the program centered at PeFI’s Learning Center Department. The practicum forms part of ULM’s strategy to integrate academic theory with hands-on professional forestry practices.
The ULM delegation was officially welcomed by PeFI Head Moch. Farid Januardi and his team. He expressed appreciation for ULM’s continued trust in PeFI as a field laboratory for forestry education, noting that many ULM alumni are now actively contributing to Perum Perhutani.
Throughout the week-long program, students received comprehensive training covering forest planning documentation, teak plantation cultivation, logging techniques, downstream wood processing industries, management of non-timber forest products, and the historical development of forest management under Perhutani. The curriculum was designed to broaden both technical knowledge and practical skills in plantation forest management.
ULM Vice Dean for Finance and General Affairs, Dr. Badaruddin, highlighted the value of the collaboration, stating that the program not only enhances technical capacity but also builds discipline, professional ethics, and readiness for real field conditions while maintaining strong scientific foundations.
Through this initiative, ULM reaffirmed its commitment to producing competent, adaptive forestry graduates capable of meeting the challenges of Indonesia’s forestry sector. The partnership between higher education institutions and professional forest management bodies such as PeFI is viewed as a strategic step toward supporting sustainable forestry development.
