Enviro News Asia, Cirebon — Sugiri Sukani Air Base and the Cirebon Naval Base planted 10,000 mangrove seedlings at Baro Gebang Beach in Cirebon Regency, West Java, as part of activities marking the 81st anniversary of the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI).
The mangrove planting took place on September 17, 2026, in Gebang Mekar Village, Gebang District. Personnel from Sugiri Sukani Air Base, Cirebon Naval Base, relevant government agencies and local residents participated in the activity.
Sugiri Sukani Air Base Commander Lt. Col. Pnb Kadeck Dwi Indira Mawan was represented by the base’s Administration and Personnel Affairs Officer, Capt. Sus Turi Noor Kuswati.
The planting was carried out as part of efforts to strengthen coastal protection against erosion while supporting the habitat of marine organisms. Mangrove ecosystems also contribute to the sustainability of fisheries resources and support communities whose livelihoods depend on coastal and marine resources.
The participating institutions emphasized that mangrove conservation should not stop at planting activities. Local communities were encouraged to maintain and protect the seedlings so that the ecological benefits can continue over the long term.
The collaboration between the Air Force, Navy, government agencies and local residents also highlighted the role of community participation in protecting coastal ecosystems.
The activity formed part of broader environmental initiatives involving the Indonesian Armed Forces and communities, with an emphasis on maintaining coastal areas for future generations. (*)
