Enviro News Asia, Jakarta – PT Pertamina (Persero) has educated 5,512 students and 551 teachers across Indonesia through its 12 Independent Energy School (SEB) programs in its second year. As a result, the SEB Pertamina program has successfully generated up to 57,816 kilowatt hours (kWh) of energy and reduced carbon emissions by the equivalent of 45,840 kg of carbon dioxide (CO₂) per year.
Vice President of Corporate Communication at Pertamina, Fadjar Djoko Santoso, stated that the SEB Program is one of Pertamina’s flagship Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives in schools, aimed at educating junior and senior high school students about various aspects of energy. This includes different types of energy, their usage, and how to manage and utilize energy wisely.
“SEB Pertamina reflects our commitment to building the competencies of young generations who care about energy sustainability and the environment. This initiative also aligns with the Asta Cita program of President Prabowo’s administration, which aims to strengthen Indonesia’s human resources, particularly in the fields of science and technology,” said Fadjar Djoko Santoso in a press release received on Saturday (February 1, 2025).
Fadjar added that in its second year, the SEB Program has been implemented in 12 schools across various regions in Indonesia. Each school has been equipped with solar panels with a capacity of 3.3 kilowatt peak (kWp) and batteries with a capacity of 5 kWp. One of the latest implementations was the installation of solar panels at SLB Negeri Pembina Aceh Tamiang, inaugurated on Saturday, January 25, 2025. The SEB program at SLB Negeri Pembina Aceh Tamiang was carried out by Pertamina through PT Pertamina EP Rantau Field.
In addition to Aceh, Pertamina has also implemented the SEB Program at SMKN 1 Mojosongo, Boyolali (Central Java), SMA 1 KP Paseh Ibun, Bandung Regency (West Java), and several other regions. Among these schools, nine have received the Adiwiyata School Award from the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Indonesia.
The Principal of SMKN 1 Mojosongo, Agus Margono, expressed his gratitude for Pertamina’s support through SEB. “Currently, SMKN 1 Mojosongo has been awarded the title of Mandiri Adiwiyata School, which is the highest recognition. We hope that the SEB program we are implementing will further strengthen and maintain this achievement,” he said.
As part of the SEB initiative, students also participate in activities such as tree planting, eco-friendly technological innovations, and energy transition education, where Pertamina teams conduct outreach sessions on clean energy and environmentally conscious lifestyles. In addition to enhancing students’ overall competencies, 227 students have been selected as Green Warriors—Pertamina ambassadors dedicated to promoting eco-friendly activities in schools.
As a leading company in energy transition, Pertamina is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that contribute directly to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These efforts align with the implementation of Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) principles across all Pertamina’s business lines and operations.
