UPNVJ Informatics Study Program Earns “Excellent” Accreditation, Eyes Global Stage

Enviro News Asia, Jakarta – The Informatics Study Program, Faculty of Computer Science (FIK), Universitas Pembangunan Nasional Veteran Jakarta (UPNVJ), has successfully earned “Excellent” accreditation from the Independent Accreditation Institute for Informatics and Computers (LAM INFOKOM).

This achievement marks a significant milestone in the study program’s efforts toward the internationalization of higher education.

Dean of FIK UPNVJ, Prof. Dr. Ir. Supriyanto, S.T., M.Sc., expressed his gratitude for this accomplishment. “This success is the result of solid teamwork between the Study Program Management Unit (UPPS) and the study program team led at that time by Dr. Widya Cholil, S.Kom., M.I.T.,” he said in an official statement released by UPNVJ on Thursday (21/08/2025).

He added that the achievement was supported by a competency-based curriculum, experienced lecturers, and state-of-the-art laboratory and technological facilities.

The success in obtaining the “Excellent” accreditation is the culmination of efforts that began in 2020, when the Informatics Study Program started implementing an Outcome-Based Education (OBE) curriculum. This curriculum aligns the learning process with national accreditation standards and industry needs.

The accreditation process involved a rigorous evaluation of teaching quality, research, community service, and program governance, all of which were deemed to meet the highest standards.

Ultimately, LAM INFOKOM awarded the “Excellent” accreditation through Decree (SK) Number 221/SK/LAM-INFOKOM/Ak/S/VIII/2025, issued on August 21, 2025.

Focus on Artificial Intelligence

Dr. Widya Cholil, now serving as Head of the Informatics Department, explained that the preparation process for accreditation involved forming a special team, drafting a self-evaluation document, preparing performance reports, and conducting mock assessments before submission to LAM INFOKOM.

To support this process, the Faculty of Computer Science developed a special application to streamline data collection for students, lecturers, and supporting documents.

“We did not face major obstacles, only the time needed to gather a large number of documents,” said Dr. Widya.

Following the achievement of “Excellent” accreditation, FIK has designed strategic steps toward internationalization.

These include hosting an annual international conference, initiating a student exchange program with Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin in Malaysia, and admitting international students. “This year, we have welcomed international students from Pakistan.

This is an important first step toward becoming an internationally recognized educational institution,” said Prof. Supriyanto.

The Faculty of Computer Science is also strengthening the relevance of its education to industry needs.

The Informatics Study Program has established three professional graduate profiles: software engineer, cyber security engineer, and network engineer, with a specialization focus on artificial intelligence (AI).

“We want the UPNVJ Informatics Study Program to be recognized for its AI-based specialization so that our graduates can compete in the global market,” said Dr. Widya.

The program’s success is also supported by its alumni, many of whom have built successful careers both in Indonesia and abroad. This aligns with UPNVJ’s vision of internationalization.

“We continue to strengthen connections with alumni to enhance the program’s network and relevance,” Dr. Widya added.

With this “Excellent” accreditation, the UPNVJ Informatics Study Program reaffirms its commitment to producing high-quality graduates ready to contribute in the digital era, while solidifying UPNVJ’s position as a globally competitive university. (www.upnvj.ac.id)
