Enviro News Asia, Jakarta — The Asosiasi Dosen dan Peneliti Ilmu Komunikasi (ADPIKI) has established a strategic partnership with Enviro News Asia to strengthen collaboration between academia and the media industry in advancing research-based public communication, particularly on environmental, sustainability, climate change, and digital transformation issues.
The collaboration was formalized through the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the implementation of the Higher Education Tridharma on Thursday, 7 May 2026.
Chairman of ADPIKI Heri Budianto emphasized that academia can no longer focus solely on producing scientific publications, but must also ensure that research findings are translated into accessible public knowledge with tangible societal impact.
“For years, many communication studies have remained confined to journals and seminar rooms. Yet today’s national challenges require more concrete academic contributions through strong, credible public communication capable of building public awareness,” Heri said.
According to him, digital media transformation has fundamentally reshaped the production and distribution of information. Everyone can now become an information producer, while social media algorithms often amplify viral content faster than verified and research-based information.
He noted that such conditions present major challenges for both higher education institutions and the media industry.
Heri explained that ADPIKI seeks to reposition communication lecturers and researchers not only as educators and academic writers, but also as strategic actors capable of strengthening public literacy, developing risk communication strategies, building public trust, and delivering communication solutions for national issues such as climate change, disasters, environmental protection, and digital transformation.
“The partnership with Enviro News is important because media organizations have the ability to bridge research findings with public needs. This is not merely a ceremonial collaboration, but an effort to build a collaborative ecosystem between academics and the media so that communication science truly reaches society,” he said.
Meanwhile, President Director of Enviro News Asia Syaifura Apsara Herlambang stated that the media industry is currently facing significant challenges in maintaining information quality amid the rapid growth of digital content that often prioritizes sensationalism over substance.
“We see a growing need for journalism and public communication that are grounded in data, science, and academic research. Therefore, Enviro News aims to become a collaborative platform for academics, researchers, and media practitioners to deliver information that is not only fast, but also educational and impactful,” Syaifura said.
She added that environmental, climate change, forestry, and sustainability issues require stronger communication approaches because the challenges involved are not only technical, but also related to changing public behavior and building collective awareness.
“Environmental communication can no longer rely on conventional methods. It requires strong narratives, adaptive digital approaches, and research support to ensure messages can encourage public participation and drive social change,” she added.
Under the MoU, both parties agreed to collaborate in education, research, and community service, including the development of media literacy programs, popular scientific publications, collaborative research, digital communication training, and public campaigns related to environmental and sustainability issues.
The agreement will remain in effect for three years and may be extended based on mutual consent.
The collaboration between Asosiasi Dosen dan Peneliti Ilmu Komunikasi and Enviro News Asia is expected to strengthen the role of communication science as a strategic instrument in supporting national development, particularly in addressing climate change challenges, digital information disruption, and the need to improve public literacy in Indonesia.
