Enviro News Asia, Jakarta — Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Copenhagen Urban Solar Parks BD Ltd (CUSP) to explore collaboration opportunities in renewable energy development in Bangladesh, including solar photovoltaic (solar PV) projects and potential cooperation in operations and maintenance (O&M).
The agreement was signed by Pertamina NRE President Director John Anis and CUSP Chairman Ziaur Rahman at Grha Pertamina, Jakarta, on Wednesday (13/5). The partnership marks an initial step toward expanding clean energy investment and strengthening regional collaboration in accelerating the global energy transition.
Under the cooperation framework, both companies will conduct feasibility studies covering technical, market, environmental, legal, business, and project risk aspects. The collaboration will also include exploration of strategic, technical, and commercial partnerships, alongside knowledge sharing and renewable energy technology applications.
Pertamina NRE President Director John Anis stated that the collaboration reflects Pertamina’s commitment to expanding green energy development internationally amid growing global demand for sustainable energy solutions.
“Amid the current global uncertainties, this collaboration represents an important momentum and a strategic step for the development of renewable energy business in Indonesia while supporting sustainable clean energy needs in Bangladesh,” John Anis said.
He added that the Bangladesh initiative could further strengthen Pertamina NRE’s international renewable energy portfolio following its positive achievements in the Philippines.
“Currently, Pertamina NRE has an installed capacity of more than 1 GWp in the Philippines and continues to grow with a target of reaching 2.6 GWp by the end of this year. This achievement serves as an important foundation for Pertamina NRE to develop similar projects in Bangladesh,” he explained.
Meanwhile, CUSP Chairman Ziaur Rahman described the partnership as a strategic opportunity to develop innovative and impactful solar energy solutions in Bangladesh.
“We welcome this collaboration as a strategic step toward delivering innovative, efficient, and impactful clean energy solutions for sustainable development in Bangladesh,” Ziaur Rahman stated.
The signing ceremony was also witnessed by Roy Wahab, Director of Investment and Creative Economy at Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who expressed appreciation for the initiative in strengthening bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and Bangladesh.
“This partnership reflects the close bilateral relations between the two countries, particularly in promoting green investment and sustainable energy development. Sharing knowledge and experience will certainly provide benefits for both nations,” Roy said.
Through the partnership, Pertamina NRE and CUSP aim to support the acceleration of the global energy transition, contribute to Indonesia’s Net Zero Emission 2060 target, and encourage green investment, clean energy development, and technology exchange between Indonesia and Bangladesh.
The cooperation is expected to generate economic benefits, strengthen energy resilience, and contribute to addressing global climate change challenges through sustainable energy solutions. (*)
