Enviro News Asia, Jakarta – Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jakarta (UPNVJ) Rector Prof. Dr. Anter Venus, MA, Comm, accompanied by the university leadership team, conducted a faculty visit to the Faculty of Engineering at the Pondok Labu Campus on Friday to directly assess the faculty’s performance in research, scientific publications, journal management, and institutional development.
According to the performance report presented during the visit, the Faculty of Engineering demonstrated a positive research trajectory throughout the 2021–2025 period, with patents and scientific journal publications serving as key indicators of growing academic productivity across the faculty’s study programs. The number of external research grant proposals and successful awards has also increased, reflecting the growing competitiveness of faculty members in securing outside research funding.
However, the evaluation identified several areas needing improvement, including a decline in internal grant applications and approvals, delays in completing certain research outputs, and the need to strengthen entrepreneurship and the commercialization of research results.
The Rector stressed that university research should address the needs of society and industry, and that outcomes should go beyond reports and publications to become innovations, products, policy recommendations, or technological solutions with broader applications.
“Research must have a clear direction. We are not merely pursuing numbers, but also quality, usefulness, and societal impact. The Faculty of Engineering has significant potential to generate innovations closely aligned with industrial needs and national development priorities,” Prof. Anter Venus said.
The faculty’s study programs, spanning Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, and Naval Architecture and Shipbuilding Engineering, continue to contribute to UPNVJ’s academic reputation through international publications. Journal management was also flagged as an area requiring stronger governance, improved article quality, and more strategic accreditation efforts.
The university also emphasized that stronger research capacity must be matched by expanded collaborative networks with industry, government agencies, professional communities, and academic institutions to translate research findings into applied technologies and community engagement programs.
Through the faculty visit, the university leadership aims to ensure every faculty has a measurable development roadmap, with performance evaluations serving not only to review achievements but also to identify challenges, formulate improvement strategies, and accelerate institutional goals.
