APHI Strengthens Commitment to Sustainable Forest Management Through Stakeholder Engagement

Enviro News Asia, Bogor — Asosiasi Pengusaha Hutan Indonesia (APHI) convened a Halal Bihalal gathering with key forestry stakeholders in Bogor, West Java, to reinforce collaboration and strengthen commitment toward sustainable forest management in Indonesia.

The event brought together representatives from universities, non-governmental organizations, certification bodies, research institutions, business actors, and other strategic partners in the forestry sector. It served as a platform for constructive dialogue and exchange of perspectives on the importance of sustainability as a fundamental principle in forest governance.

Participants emphasized that sustainable forest management is not only crucial for environmental preservation but also essential for maintaining the long-term viability of the forestry industry amid global challenges.

Chairman of APHI, Soewarso, stated that the Halal Bihalal gathering goes beyond a post-Idul Fitri tradition, acting as a moment of reflection to strengthen the sector’s role in supporting sustainable development.

“Through this gathering, we are not only strengthening relationships among stakeholders but also reinforcing our shared commitment to making sustainable forest management the foundation of forestry business practices in Indonesia,” he said.

He added that sustainability must be fully integrated into all aspects of forest management, from planning to on-the-ground implementation. Strong synergy among businesses, government, and communities, he noted, is key to ensuring that forestry practices deliver both economic benefits and environmental balance.

Soewarso also highlighted the significant potential of Indonesia’s forestry sector to grow sustainably, provided all stakeholders uphold good governance principles. He stressed the importance of multi-stakeholder collaboration in addressing key challenges, including climate change and increasing pressure on forest resources.

The forum also reflected a shared spirit of collaboration in exploring innovative solutions through technical approaches, methodologies, technology, as well as market and policy strategies amid a slowdown in the forestry business climate.

Stakeholders agreed to intensify ongoing discussions on strategic forestry issues, aiming to strengthen synergy and formulate concrete solutions. These efforts are expected to help revive Indonesia’s forestry sector as a leading export contributor while ensuring tangible benefits for communities and long-term environmental sustainability. (*)
