APKI Mourns the Passing of Liana Bratasida

Enviro News Asia, Jakarta — The Indonesian Pulp and Paper Association (APKI) announced the passing of its Chairwoman for the 2021–2026 term, Liana Bratasida, who died in Jakarta at the age of 74. Her passing marks a significant loss for Indonesia’s pulp and paper industry.

Liana Bratasida led APKI with a firm commitment to policy advocacy, industrial diplomacy, and sustainable transformation. Under her leadership, APKI strengthened its role as a proactive industry organization that actively engaged with government institutions and international stakeholders to safeguard the competitiveness of Indonesia’s pulp and paper sector.

Chairman of the APKI Supervisory Board, Ngakan Timur Antara, described her as a leader of integrity and clarity. He stated that her decisiveness consistently reflected a strong commitment to national industrial progress and left a high leadership standard within the association.

Her influence extended beyond domestic policy. According to APKI Vice Chairman Suhendra Wiriadinata, Liana Bratasida played a crucial role in international engagement, addressing global trade barriers and environmental issues through sustained industrial diplomacy that enhanced Indonesia’s standing in the global pulp and paper market.

During her tenure, the Indonesian pulp and paper industry maintained strong economic fundamentals. In 2025, the sector contributed 3.68 percent to the non-oil and gas manufacturing GDP, supported more than 288,000 direct workers, and sustained over 1.2 million indirect jobs nationwide.

Only one week before her passing, during the APKI Working Meeting on December 16, 2025, Liana Bratasida reaffirmed her commitment to sustainability. She emphasized that green transformation was no longer optional but a mandatory requirement to meet global supply chain expectations and ensure long-term industry resilience.

APKI stated that her legacy would continue to guide the organization and the wider pulp and paper industry in pursuing sustainable growth, professionalism, and responsible industrial development. (*)
