Enviro News Asia, Jakarta — APP Group has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Lubrizol to explore collaboration in developing sustainable paper and packaging solutions. The signing took place on the sidelines of the Indonesia International Sustainability Forum (ISF) 2025 in Jakarta (October 10), an international platform bringing together governments, businesses, financial institutions, and global organizations to accelerate sustainability efforts and the transition toward a green economy.
Through this event, the collaboration between APP and Lubrizol becomes part of a collective effort to promote eco-friendly innovation in the industrial sector, aligning with ISF’s mission to strengthen cross-sector partnerships for sustainable development.
The partnership combines APP’s expertise in paper and packaging manufacturing with Lubrizol’s competence in specialty chemical technology, aiming to drive innovation in water-based and bio-based coating technologies. The cooperation also seeks to reinforce advocacy efforts for environmentally friendly material regulations across various industries.
Under this agreement, APP and Lubrizol will establish a joint working team to identify and evaluate potential collaboration opportunities in sustainable coatings, barrier technologies, and functional paper packaging applications. This collaboration reflects both companies’ commitment to responsible innovation, circular economy principles, and sustainable environmental management.
As part of the collaboration, APP will leverage one of its flagship products, Foopak Bio Natura — a sustainable paperboard for food and beverage packaging. Foopak Bio Natura has been recognized as a packaging solution compliant with international standards and regulations in Europe, the United States, Asia, and other key markets. The product utilizes bio water-based dispersion coating technology that replaces conventional plastic layers. Through this partnership with Lubrizol, APP aims to develop new innovations and technologies to strengthen sustainable packaging solutions while providing added value for customers globally.
“Through this collaboration, we aim to deliver packaging solutions that align with global sustainability trends and meet the growing demand for renewable, recyclable, and biodegradable materials. Our partnership with Lubrizol will enhance our technical capabilities in paper-based barrier technologies while opening new opportunities for innovation in line with market developments and environmental policies,” said Kin Keung Christopher Wong, Senior Vice President and Global Business Unit Head, Foopak, Industrial White APP Group.
Meanwhile, Henry Liu, Vice President Asia Pacific of Lubrizol, emphasized that the collaboration underscores the importance of cross-industry partnerships in generating real impact for sustainability, particularly in the rapidly evolving packaging sector driven by growing environmental awareness and consumer preferences.
