Enviro News Asia, Beijing — Senior Chinese officials have called for intensified efforts to strengthen workplace safety and prevent forest and grassland fires during a national conference held in Beijing.
The meeting emphasized prioritizing fire prevention in crowded venues, high-rise buildings and self-built houses used for commercial purposes. Authorities were instructed to carry out comprehensive inspections in key industries to identify and eliminate potential risks, while cracking down on illegal and non-compliant practices.
Special attention was given to safety control measures in the transportation sector. The conference also underscored stricter management of fireworks and firecrackers to safeguard lives and property, particularly during the Spring Festival period.
Participants highlighted the importance of enhancing monitoring and early warning systems for forest and grassland fires, alongside strict control of fire sources and the removal of potential fire hazards.
Zhang Guoqing, Vice Premier of China and member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, delivered a speech at the conference. The meeting was presided over by Wang Xiaohong, a member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee and a state councilor. (*)
