Enviro News Asia, Beijing — State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) has revised regulations on green product certification and labeling, strengthening supervision across the entire certification chain to ensure credibility and compliance.
The updated measures mark a shift from label-focused management to full-process oversight, covering certification implementation, certificate management, label usage, and supervisory responsibilities. The regulations uphold unified product catalogs, evaluation standards, certification rules, and labels, while introducing a tiered management system.
SAMR stated that the revisions clarify the responsibilities of all stakeholders and aim to improve transparency and enforcement in the green certification sector. The move is intended to support sustainable consumption and prevent misuse of green labels.
Currently, China’s green product certification catalog includes 122 product categories related to daily consumption, such as electronic appliances, furniture, construction materials, express packaging, and textiles. According to SAMR data, nearly 40,000 valid certificates have been issued to more than 8,000 enterprises nationwide. (*)
