Dutch Hiker Falls on Mount Rinjani, Helicopter Deployed for Evacuation

Enviro News Asia, Mataram – A Dutch hiker, Sarah Tamar van Hulten (26), fell while climbing Mount Rinjani in West Nusa Tenggara on Thursday (July 17, 2025) at around 1:08 PM Central Indonesia Time (WITA).

Officials from the Mount Rinjani National Park Authority (BTNGR) quickly coordinated with the Mataram Search and Rescue (SAR) Team and other relevant agencies to evacuate the victim by helicopter to BIMC Hospital in Kuta, Bali, for medical treatment.

According to an official report from BTNGR, the victim fell along the Pelawangan Sembalun route leading to Segara Anak Lake, plunging approximately 20–30 meters.

At the time, she was hiking Rinjani with three friends, accompanied by a guide named Karman Partu Rengga and two porters. “According to the eRinjani application, the victim registered for the climb on July 16, 2025, through the Sembalun entrance,” said a BTNGR official.

Within just an hour, rescue personnel arrived at the accident site. The victim was conscious, but due to the severity of her injuries, a ground evacuation was deemed too risky.

“The victim is suspected to have suffered a bone fracture,” said Head of the Mataram SAR Office, Muhamad Hariyadi. Consequently, the rescue team coordinated with multiple parties, including SGI Air Bali, which provided the helicopter for the evacuation.

Thanks to clear and favorable weather conditions, the helicopter was able to land near the location where the victim fell. A doctor provided immediate care and first aid on site. The victim was then flown by helicopter to BIMC Hospital in Kuta, Bali. (*)
