Enviro News Asia, Washington, D.C. — Four mid-ranking officers of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) have successfully completed advanced military education at the United States National Defense University (NDU), one of the world’s most prestigious institutions for national security and strategic studies. The graduation ceremony was held on Thursday, 11 June 2026, at Fort Lesley J. McNair in Washington, D.C.
Among the 638 graduates from the United States and partner countries, Indonesia was represented by Colonel Tri Yudha Ismanto of the Marine Corps, who earned a Master’s degree in International Security. Colonel Benny Wahyudi also completed his studies at the National War College, a renowned institution that prepares senior military and civilian leaders for strategic-level responsibilities.Meanwhile, Colonel M. Jausan obtained a Master of Science degree after specializing in Information and Cyberspace, an increasingly critical field in contemporary security affairs. Colonel Akal Juang Putra graduated from the Dwight D. Eisenhower School for National Security and Resource Strategy with a Master of Science degree, focusing on resource management and national security strategy.
The achievement reflects Indonesia’s long-term commitment to developing globally minded military leaders equipped with strategic thinking capabilities to address emerging security challenges.The four officers add to the growing list of prominent Indonesian military figures who have studied at NDU. Distinguished alumni include Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Panjaitan, Lieutenant General Agus Widjojo, former TNI Commander General Andika Perkasa, and Lieutenant General Jonni Mahroza.
In 2025, Colonel Kurniawan, a graduate of the Indonesian Military Academy’s Class of 1998, received the Distinguished Graduate award from the College of International Security Affairs (CISA) at NDU, highlighting the academic and leadership excellence demonstrated by Indonesian officers.Established in 1976, the National Defense University serves as a center for strategic education and policy development for military and civilian leaders from the United States and allied nations. The university comprises several specialized institutions, including the National War College, Eisenhower School, Joint Forces Staff College, College of Information and Cyberspace, and College of International Security Affairs.
Its academic programs focus on key issues such as national security strategy, joint operations, resource management, cybersecurity, and global geopolitical dynamics. The university’s international environment also provides a platform for strategic dialogue and defense diplomacy among participating countries.This year’s commencement ceremony was attended by Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dan Caine and ambassadors from partner nations. Indonesia was represented by Ambassador to the United States Indroyono Soesilo, accompanied by the Indonesian Defense Attaché and Army Attaché.
The presence of Indonesian representatives underscored Indonesia’s growing role in the global security network and reaffirmed the importance of defense cooperation between Jakarta and Washington.The graduates were officially commissioned by NDU President Vice Admiral Peter A. Garvin, marking the beginning of a new chapter in their service as strategic leaders within the Indonesian Armed Forces.
