Indonesia Demonstrates Forestry Leadership in ASEAN at the 28th ASOF Meeting

Enviro News Asia, Luang Prabang – Indonesia showcased its strong leadership in forest conservation and management at the regional level during the 28th Meeting of the ASEAN Senior Officials on Forestry (ASOF), held in Luang Prabang, Laos, on August 7–8, 2025.

The Indonesian delegation, led by Dida Mighfar Ridha, Senior Advisor to the Minister of Forestry, played a central role in the discussions. In his remarks, Dida highlighted the importance of collaboration and knowledge sharing.

“ASEAN must stand united to tackle forestry challenges, including climate change, food security, and community welfare, through sustainable forest management,” he stated.

The 28th ASOF served as a key platform for ASEAN member states to strengthen cooperation in the forestry sector.

One of the highlights of Indonesia’s contribution was its commitment to mangrove forest rehabilitation efforts.

As a country that holds nearly a quarter of the world’s total mangrove forests, Indonesia is ready to lead the global blue carbon initiative.

In its report, the Indonesian delegation presented several national best practices, including the implementation of a sustainable national mangrove rehabilitation program, the development of mangrove centers for research and ecotourism, and technological innovations in forestry.

These achievements reflect Indonesia’s strong commitment to responsible forest resource management, earning praise from other participating countries.

Dida also emphasized the importance of maintaining the momentum of this cooperation to ensure the sustainability of ongoing forestry projects.

The presence of Dida Mighfar Ridha and the Indonesian delegation at the 28th ASOF reflects Indonesia’s readiness to share its experiences and lead collective efforts toward a greener and more sustainable future, particularly within ASEAN.

Indonesia attended not merely as a participant, but as a driving force, pushing for tangible collaboration, inspiring other nations, and laying the foundation for a stronger, action-oriented ASEAN forestry policy. (*)
