Enviro News Asia, Belém — The Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia took an active role in the thematic session of the Plan to Accelerate Solutions (PAS) organized by UNEP/UN-REDD during COP30. The meeting was attended by government representatives from Nepal, Uganda, Mexico, Brazil, Indonesia, and several international organizations to strengthen global collaboration in advancing REDD+ solutions and accelerating efforts to reduce deforestation and forest degradation.
The session aimed to align PAS work related to REDD+, identify synergies with other initiatives such as the UN-REDD Programme and the JREDD Coalition, and agree on next steps for deeper collaboration. The PAS agenda forms part of collective efforts under UN-REDD to accelerate investment, enhance capacity-building, and strengthen high-integrity REDD+ governance.
Indonesia’s delegation was represented by Haruni, Senior Advisor to the Minister for Climate Change, and Agus Budi Santoso, Director of Forest Resource Inventory and Monitoring.
During the discussion, Indonesia highlighted several key points, including the need for a clear roadmap to support developing countries in achieving PAS targets—particularly in strengthening technical capacity, governance frameworks, and readiness for jurisdictional REDD+ implementation. Indonesia also emphasized the importance of local community involvement, safeguards mechanisms, performance-based finance, and sustained technical support to reinforce MRV systems.
Strategic issues discussed included harmonization challenges, value-chain agendas, transparency roles, and cross-border coordination relevant to global REDD+ implementation.
The meeting concluded with a commitment to enhance coordination across PAS working groups, strengthen alignment with UN-REDD and the JREDD Coalition, and identify key barriers and opportunities for joint action. UNEP/UN-REDD will facilitate next steps, including joint follow-up and milestone formulation.
This meeting reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to advancing REDD+ implementation to support the achievement of FOLU Net Sink 2030 and contribute to global climate goals. (*)
