Enviro News Asia, Jakarta — Indonesia’s Ministry of Forestry continues to intensify post-disaster recovery efforts following flash floods in North Aceh and North Sumatra, with a focus on restoring access to residential areas, schools, and public services.
Head of the Gunung Leuser National Park Authority, Subhan, stated that recovery operations in Langkahan Sub-district, North Aceh, are being carried out through cross-sector collaboration involving the military, disaster management agencies, and local communities.
“A total of 70 joint personnel supported by six excavators have been deployed to reopen access roads, routes to residential areas, and to clean school facilities,” Subhan said on Tuesday.
In Geudumbak Village, approximately 2.2 hectares of accumulated disaster debris obstructing roads and settlements have been successfully cleared. Cleanup efforts were also completed at SD Negeri 2 Langkahan Elementary School and Dayah Darul Aman Islamic boarding school in Tanjung Dalam Village.
Meanwhile, in South Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra, recovery activities continue in Garoga, Huta Godang, and Aek Ngadol villages. Head of the North Sumatra Natural Resources Conservation Agency, Novita Kusuma Wardani, said debris sorting and public facility cleanup are progressing in an integrated manner.
“As of December 30, debris sorting along the Garoga River has been completed at ten locations, accompanied by the cleaning of residential areas, village halls, markets, and houses of worship,” Novita explained.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the accelerated recovery of disaster-affected areas through sustained inter-agency coordination at the regional level. (*)
