Indonesian Cadets Graduate with Distinction from Prestigious U.S. Military Academies

Enviro News Asia, Washington D.C. — Two Indonesian military cadets have achieved a significant international milestone after graduating with distinction from two of the United States’ most prestigious military academies, strengthening defense cooperation and professional ties between Indonesia and the United States.

Second Lieutenant Roosevelt Purba became the first Indonesian graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Security Studies and graduated with Cum Laude honors.

West Point, established in 1802, is the oldest military academy in the United States and is internationally recognized for developing military leadership, discipline, character, and strategic thinking. The academy has produced prominent military leaders including Douglas MacArthur, Dwight D. Eisenhower, George C. Marshall, and George S. Patton.

Meanwhile, Second Lieutenant (Navy) Hikmal Fikri Wildani Nurdiansyah successfully completed a four-year program at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. He graduated alongside 1,058 midshipmen, including international cadets from various countries.

The U.S. Naval Academy is among the world’s leading naval education institutions and counts notable alumni such as Jimmy Carter, Chester W. Nimitz, and Alan Shepard.

Hikmal’s participation in the academy was part of Indonesia’s strategic program to send military cadets to leading international defense institutions, an initiative launched by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto during his tenure as Minister of Defense.

Indonesian Ambassador to the United States Indroyono Soesilo welcomed the achievements, describing them as evidence of the intellectual, physical, and leadership capabilities of Indonesian military officers on the global stage.

According to the ambassador, the success of both officers not only enhances Indonesia’s international reputation but also strengthens defense diplomacy and professional military exchanges between Indonesia and the United States through the sharing of knowledge, doctrines, and modern military practices.

The achievement is expected to inspire future generations of Indonesian military officers to pursue international excellence while contributing to the modernization and professionalism of the Indonesian Armed Forces. (*)
