Enviro News Asia, Washington, D.C. — The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Washington, D.C. hosted Movie Night at the Embassy, featuring the Indonesian horror-thriller “Abadi Nan Jaya” (The Elixir) directed by Kimo Stamboel and starring Mikha Tambayong, Eva Celia, and Donny Damara.
The screening drew more than 60 attendees, including students, influencers, and members of the American public from the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) areas, as well as guests from other states such as Michigan and Iowa.
In his opening remarks, Indonesian Ambassador to the United States, Dwisuryo Indroyono Soesilo, highlighted Indonesia’s strong position in the global horror film scene. “Around 60 percent of films produced in Indonesia belong to the horror genre. This reflects not only the creativity of Indonesian filmmakers but also the rapid growth of the national creative industry, which continues to gain international recognition,” said Ambassador Indroyono.
The Elixir tells the story of a zombie outbreak presented through Indonesia’s distinctive cinematography. The audience responded enthusiastically to the screening, which took place inside the historic Indonesian Embassy building, decorated with Halloween-themed ornaments to enhance the chilling atmosphere.
Alongside the film screening, the event also showcased a variety of Indonesian dishes with a Halloween twist, offering guests an opportunity to enjoy local cuisine in an engaging and festive setting.
The Movie Night at the Embassy program is part of the Embassy’s broader initiative to promote Indonesia’s creative industries—particularly in film and culinary arts—to American audiences. The event aims to enhance public appreciation of Indonesian creativity and expand the global reach of the nation’s creative economy. (*)
