Minister Launches Climate and Carbon Collaboration Hub to Accelerate Indonesia’s Climate Action

Enviro News Asia, Jakarta — Indonesia has officially reactivated the Climate and Carbon Collaboration and Consultation Hub (RKKIK) as part of a broader effort to strengthen national climate action and accelerate the implementation of low-carbon development strategies.

The initiative was launched by Minister of Environment and Head of the Environmental Control Agency (KLH/BPLH), Moh Jumhur Hidayat, during a ceremony at the ministry’s headquarters in Jakarta on 4 June 2026.

The reactivation of RKKIK comes amid growing concerns over the global climate crisis and is intended to serve as a collaborative platform that connects government institutions, businesses, academic communities, civil society organizations, development partners, and young people. The platform is expected to support Indonesia’s efforts to achieve its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) targets and strengthen the implementation of carbon economic instruments under the country’s low-carbon development agenda.

Speaking at the launch, Minister Jumhur emphasized that climate action requires stronger cooperation across sectors and stakeholders.

According to him, the success of climate policies depends not only on the quality of regulations but also on the ability to build an ecosystem that links knowledge, data, resources, and practical action. He described RKKIK as a shared space where stakeholders can exchange experiences, discuss challenges, and develop collaborative solutions to support Indonesia’s climate goals.

The minister added that the hub is expected to function as a center for knowledge, consultation, innovation, and partnership development, bringing together expertise and ideas needed to address climate change while promoting sustainable economic growth.

Deputy for Climate Change Control and Carbon Economic Value Governance at KLH/BPLH, Ary Sudijanto, explained that the operationalization of RKKIK is based on Ministerial Decree No. 2211 of 2026, issued on 1 June 2026.

Ary said the hub has been designed as a platform for consultation, communication, information sharing, and education that supports cooperation among national and local governments, businesses, academics, communities, and international partners in implementing climate and carbon-related policies.

He noted that RKKIK is expected to strengthen the effectiveness of Indonesia’s NDC implementation and carbon economic value mechanisms through technical assistance, capacity-building programs, advocacy services, and collaborative partnerships.

Going forward, the hub will support a range of strategic climate initiatives, including climate change mitigation and adaptation programs, implementation of carbon economic value policies, management of the National Registry System for Climate Change Control, operation of the Carbon Unit Registry System, and facilitation of international climate financing and cooperation.

To expand public participation, RKKIK will also introduce several flagship programs, including Climate Corner, Climate Clinic, Climate Dialogue Forum, the National Carbon Forum, and the Carbon Youth Lab. These initiatives aim to improve public access to climate information, strengthen technical consultation services, encourage multi-stakeholder networking, and promote youth engagement in climate action and carbon economy development.

The Ministry believes that the renewed operation of RKKIK will provide Indonesia with a stronger collaborative platform to connect innovation, investment, knowledge, and public participation, ultimately supporting the country’s transition toward a resilient and sustainable low-carbon future. (*)
