Enviro News Asia, Jakarta – Indonesia’s Minister of Forestry, Raja Juli Antoni, extended a special invitation to the joint rescue team involved in the evacuation of Juliana Marnis, a Brazilian climber who encountered an accident at Mount Rinjani National Park (TN Gunung Rinjani), to attend a gathering in Jakarta on Tuesday (July 1, 2025).
On behalf of the government, Minister Raja Juli Antoni expressed his deepest gratitude to all team members involved in the mission.
“From the bottom of my heart, personally and on behalf of the ministry, I sincerely thank you,” said Minister Raja Juli Antoni in his official statement on Tuesday.
On this occasion, the Minister also presented a formal token of appreciation to representatives of the joint rescue team who took part in the evacuation effort.

Minister Raja Juli emphasized that this incident serves as a reminder that the spirit of humanity can transcend differences in ethnicity, religion, and nationality, and that compassion can overcome even the most difficult challenges. He highlighted that collaboration and volunteerism are essential in addressing disaster-related issues.
The Minister also announced plans to strengthen Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for special-interest tourism activities, such as mountain climbing in conservation areas, in order to reduce the risk of future incidents.
“I don’t want to gamble with human lives. One of the most effective ways to prevent such accidents is to tighten our climbing SOPs and improve our infrastructure. We will continue to enhance collaboration with Basarnas, volunteer groups, the police, local governments, and other stakeholders,” said the Minister.
Concluding his remarks, Minister Raja Juli reminded all Forestry Ministry officials to enforce stricter SOPs for activities in conservation areas. “National Parks are under our jurisdiction, and thus the Ministry of Forestry bears the greatest moral responsibility.
I urge all of us within the Ministry to work together to improve our climbing SOPs,” he instructed his staff. (*)
