Enviro News Asia, Jakarta — The Working Meeting between Commission IV of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR-RI) and the Ministry of Forestry approved the indicative budget ceiling of the Ministry’s Work Plan and Budget (RKA) for 2026, amounting to IDR 4.93 trillion.
The budget is allocated across nine echelon I units within the Ministry of Forestry. The Secretariat General receives IDR 534 billion, the Inspectorate General IDR 48 billion, the Directorate General (DG) of Forestry Planning IDR 378 billion, and the DG of Natural Resources and Ecosystem Conservation receives the largest allocation at IDR 1.5 trillion. Furthermore, the DG of Watershed Management and Forest Rehabilitation receives IDR 920 billion, DG of Sustainable Forest Management IDR 291 billion, DG of Social Forestry IDR 303 billion, DG of Forestry Law Enforcement IDR 581 billion, and the Human Resources Development and Extension Agency receives IDR 297 billion.
In his official statement on Thursday (10 July 2025), Minister of Forestry Raja Juli Antoni stated that the main objectives of the Ministry’s 2026 programs are to actualize forests as sources of food, energy, and water, and to downstream forest-based products to support regional development.
This theme is translated into three macro development targets for the forestry sector:
A 15% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from the forestry sector.
Development of 600 villages through forestry-related programs to increase the Village Development Index.
An increase in the forestry sub-sector’s Gross Domestic Product to IDR 65.23 trillion at constant prices or IDR 136.19 trillion at current prices.
The Minister also outlined the Ministry’s key policy directions, which include: protecting forests as the lungs of the Earth and water regulators, ensuring equitable forest control, utilizing forests for food and energy security, implementing the One Map Policy, and modernizing forest governance through digitized forestry services.
Commission IV of the DPR-RI also approved the Ministry’s proposed additional budget for 2026 amounting to IDR 9.94 trillion, which will be submitted to the House Budget Committee (Banggar) for further deliberation.
Minister Raja Juli Antoni explained that the additional funds would prioritize:
Accelerating forest rehabilitation
Promoting agroforestry to support food diversification
Enhancing forest protection, patrols, and wildfire control
Legal enforcement and post-enforcement management of forest areas
Improving ecotourism infrastructure
Enhancing governance via digital services and One Map Policy
Fulfilling civil servant salary and performance allowance payments
“The additional budget also increases community-based spending by IDR 3.98 trillion, bringing the total to IDR 4.35 trillion. If approved, the Ministry of Forestry proposes an indicative budget ceiling for 2026 of IDR 14.88 trillion,” said Minister Raja Juli Antoni. (*)
