Pertamina Patra Niaga Strengthens Energy Transition Through Sustainable Aviation Fuel

Enviro News Asia, Jakarta – PT Pertamina Patra Niaga is advancing its energy transition and carbon emission reduction efforts through the development of low-carbon fuel products, including Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).

This initiative was highlighted during the Pertamina Investor Day 2025, held on Wednesday (July 16) in Jakarta.

The event aimed to showcase the company’s tangible efforts in achieving sustainability and Pertamina’s long-term ESG vision to investors and stakeholders, while also aligning the company’s strategy with global investor expectations regarding environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards.

Harsono Budi Santoso, Director of Planning and Business Development at Pertamina Patra Niaga, stated that SAF is part of the company’s long-term strategy to provide cleaner and more sustainable energy while supporting the 2060 Net Zero Emission (NZE) target.

“Over the past two years, we have conducted three SAF market trials and completed certification processes across the entire distribution chain—from fuel terminals to aircraft refueling depots. This is to ensure that the SAF products we distribute meet industry standards and are ready for customer use,” Harsono said in an official statement.

In addition to SAF, Pertamina Patra Niaga has also launched other low-carbon fuel products such as Biosolar and Pertamax Green 95, which are key components in the decarbonization of Pertamina’s downstream products.

With its established infrastructure and extensive experience in energy distribution, Pertamina Patra Niaga is optimistic that SAF will be a game changer in supporting Indonesia’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions and creating new opportunities in the renewable energy sector.

“We believe SAF is not just a product, but a symbol of Indonesia’s readiness to lead the energy transition in the aviation sector. With Pertamina’s infrastructure and experience, SAF is expected to pave the way toward a greener future,” Harsono concluded.

Pertamina’s SAF has obtained ISCC CORSIA (Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation) and ISCC EU (Renewable Energy Directive – European Union) certifications, enabling Pertamina Patra Niaga to market its sustainable products in compliance with CORSIA and RED EU regulations.

In 2023, Pertamina Patra Niaga successfully conducted its first SAF trial for commercial flights in collaboration with Garuda Indonesia, flying from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK) to Adi Soemarmo Airport in Solo (SOC).

Previously, Pertamina Patra Niaga also carried out a successful SAF trial during the 2024 Bali International Airshow in collaboration with several airlines and strategic partners, including Citilink, Pelita Air, and Virgin Australia. This was part of Pertamina’s commitment to supporting the development of a low-emission aviation ecosystem in Indonesia. (*)
