Enviro News Asia, Jakarta —
A different atmosphere greets visitors entering Terminal 3 of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. Ahead of Christmas and New Year, the largest airport in the country has been revamped with a more modern, futuristic, and environmentally friendly concept.
PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia (InJourney Airports), part of the InJourney Tourism and Support SOE Holding, has undertaken a massive transformation of the airports under its management. This project aims to enhance services for 150 million passengers annually, starting with two major airports: Soekarno-Hatta International Airport and I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali.
Maya Watono, President Director of InJourney, stated that the airport transformation was conducted fundamentally as airports reflect the nation’s image or act as the “gateway of the nation.”
“Airports are the first and last places visited by travelers,” said Maya Watono in a press release received on Saturday (December 28, 2024).
The domestic and international entrances have been designed to be more comfortable, featuring shaded garden landscapes. The baggage claim area includes vertical gardens and conveyor belts surrounded by greenery resembling a miniature forest. Large LED screens display videos showcasing Indonesia’s natural beauty and culture to offer a unique visual experience. Outside the terminal, parks and green areas have been redesigned to strengthen the concept of blending Indonesian culture with modern technology.
Maya Watono explained that the airport transformation is based on three main aspects:
Premises: Improving infrastructure quality to enhance customer experience, including terminal beautification and adopting technologies such as CT and ATRS X-ray systems.
Process: Optimizing operations through an ecosystem-based approach and data-driven decision-making.
People: Developing values, attitudes, and competencies with a customer-centric approach aligned with global standards.
During the Christmas and New Year (Nataru) travel season, passenger numbers at Soekarno-Hatta Airport are expected to reach 3.05 million, an increase of 7% compared to the previous Nataru season. Meanwhile, Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali is projected to serve 1.39 million passengers, also a 7% increase. “We hope this transformation will optimize services during peak seasons such as Christmas and New Year,” Maya added.
