UGM Energy Study Center Installs Portable Solar Power Systems in Disaster-Affected Areas of Aceh

Enviro News Asia, Aceh — The Energy Study Center of Universitas Gadjah Mada (PSE UGM) has provided humanitarian assistance in the form of portable solar power systems to communities affected by natural disasters in Aceh, Indonesia. The solar units were delivered and installed on Sunday, December 28, as part of PSE UGM’s efforts to support emergency energy needs in disaster-stricken areas.

Representing PSE UGM, Rachmawan Budiarto stated that the assistance was distributed across several locations, including Patan Kemuning, Timang Gajah, and Simpur in Mesidah Sub-district, Bener Meriah Regency, as well as Takengon, Aceh. The systems were handed over directly to local communities, accompanied by a technical support team from PSE UGM to ensure proper installation and operation.

The assistance consisted of three portable solar power packages, each with a capacity of 200 watt-peak (Wp). The systems are designed to provide independent and environmentally friendly electricity, serving as an alternative energy source during emergency situations.

“These portable solar power systems are expected to support basic needs such as lighting, charging communication devices, and other emergency operations, particularly during power outages,” Rachmawan said at the Universitas Gadjah Mada campus on Friday.

Through this initiative, PSE UGM reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening energy resilience, especially in crisis and disaster contexts. The utilization of renewable energy is considered a relevant and sustainable solution, particularly in areas where conventional energy infrastructure has been disrupted.

PSE UGM expressed hope that the assistance would deliver tangible benefits to communities in Aceh and contribute to post-disaster recovery efforts through the application of clean and sustainable energy solutions. (*)
