UPNVJ and USK Strengthen University Coordination for Aceh Flood Recovery

Enviro News Asia, Aceh — The Emergency Community Service (PKM) Team of Universitas Pembangunan Nasional Veteran Jakarta arrived in Banda Aceh on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, to coordinate with Universitas Syiah Kuala in supporting post-flood recovery efforts following flash floods and landslides that struck Aceh in late November 2025.

The coordination focuses on strengthening the distribution of humanitarian aid to affected areas, including Lhokseumawe, Simpang Tiga, and Langkahan. The collaboration aims to ensure that assistance reaches communities efficiently while addressing on-the-ground challenges in disaster response.

The Head of USK’s Disaster Response Task Force, Syamsidik, welcomed the UPNVJ team and emphasized the importance of inter-university collaboration. He expressed optimism that academic volunteers could carry out humanitarian missions smoothly and noted the value of sharing field conditions and operational constraints.

UPNVJ became the second state university to directly coordinate with USK for the Aceh flood response. In total, 12 state universities have joined the inter-campus coordination framework to support recovery efforts in the region.

Through this collaboration, participating universities seek to accelerate community recovery, reduce health risks, and strengthen collective resilience in areas affected by flooding and landslides. (www.upnvj.ac.id)
