Enviro News Asia, North Aceh — The Disaster Emergency Response Team of Universitas Pembangunan Nasional Veteran Jakarta (UPNVJ) distributed humanitarian assistance to flood-affected communities in North Aceh, including donations of Qur’ans, prayer equipment, basic necessities, and cash assistance.
The assistance was supported by a research and community service grant amounting to IDR 405.86 million provided by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology through its Directorate of Research and Community Service. The funding was allocated for the procurement and distribution of medical supplies and medicines to flood-affected public health centers, particularly Puskesmas Lhok Beringeun and Puskesmas Simpang Tiga.
In addition to institutional funding, UPNVJ’s Public Relations Office, in collaboration with individual donors including the Al Hajj Gawanan Colomadu Mosque congregation, mobilized additional donations totaling IDR 10.35 million. The aid was delivered directly to residents, Islamic boarding schools, and healthcare workers in the affected areas.
The humanitarian action complemented previous free medical services conducted by UPNVJ’s mobile health team. Since late November 2025, floods across Sumatra have caused extensive damage, resulting in more than a thousand fatalities and forcing hundreds of thousands of residents to evacuate, with North Aceh among the severely affected regions.
UPNVJ Vice Rector for Student Affairs, Cooperation, and Information Systems, dr. Ria Maria Theresa, stated that the initiative reflected a strong commitment to humanitarian solidarity. She emphasized that the presence of academic institutions in disaster-affected areas plays a critical role in supporting recovery and restoring community resilience.
UPNVJ affirmed that the humanitarian mission would continue through coordinated medical assistance, social support, and collaboration with local stakeholders to ensure sustainable recovery for flood-affected communities. (www.upnvj.ac.id)
