UPNVJ Joins PROSFISI, Expands Academic Footprint in Nationalism-Based Film Studies

Enviro News Asia, Bandung — A warm atmosphere filled the Hall of the Faculty of Art and Design at the Indonesia University of Education (UPI), Bandung, in early November. Amid a gathering of dozens of film academics and practitioners from across the country, a new name officially joined the circle of the Indonesian Association of Film and Television Study Programs (PROSFISI): the Film, Television, and Media Studies Program (KFTVM) of Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jakarta (UPNVJ).

The induction of UPNVJ as the 27th member of PROSFISI during the 2025 National Conference (Munas) marked more than a ceremonial event. It represented a new chapter in Indonesia’s academic film community—one enriched by the patriotic spirit of the “Veteran” campus.

This year’s conference theme, “Cine Future 2025,” reflects PROSFISI’s direction in strengthening collaboration among film and television programs nationwide. The General Chair of PROSFISI for the 2023–2027 period, Danu Murti, M.Sn., led the plenary session that formalized the new membership.

UPNVJ delegates, Dr. Firdaus Noor and Ahmad Prasetya, M.Sn., received the membership decree, committing to contribute actively to research and curriculum development in national film education.
“This membership opens great opportunities to broaden collaboration and enrich the film and media curriculum at UPNVJ,” said Ahmad Prasetya. “We aim to ensure our students are not only creative but also embody the values of national defense and character.”

Unlike most film programs in Indonesia, KFTVM UPNVJ stands out for its unique integration of art, media, and nationalism. One of its main focuses is the development of documentary films inspired by national defense values. This approach defines UPNVJ’s academic identity—nurturing young filmmakers who not only master the art of storytelling but also understand the social context and patriotic values behind it.

Beyond new member ratification, the PROSFISI National Conference also discussed strategic agendas, including collaborations with the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) and the Film Censorship Board (LSF), the development of self-censorship guidelines, and the strengthening of publication and research commissions. Prominent institutions such as LAMSPAK, LSP P3 Film, and national assessors in the film sector were also in attendance.

The two-day forum concluded with the signing of a Cooperation Agreement (PKS) among study programs, including plans for the 2026 National Student Film Festival.

For UPNVJ, this step signifies more than network expansion—it is an affirmation of its “Bela Negara” (Defend the Nation) identity, aiming to instill national values amid the vibrant creative industry.
By joining PROSFISI, UPNVJ strengthens its position as a pioneer of nationalism-based film education, preparing young filmmakers to think critically, act ethically, and compete globally. (www.upnvj.ac.id)
