Enviro News Asia, Depok — Universitas Pembangunan Nasional Veteran Jakarta (UPNVJ) inaugurated its Disability Service Unit (ULD) on December 1 at the Merce Building, Limo Campus, Depok, to strengthen support systems for students with disabilities. Rector Prof. Dr. Anter Venus, MA, Comm., led the ceremony, which was attended by disability advocates and academic experts, including Angkie Yudistia, Dr. Joko Yuwono from Universitas Sebelas Maret, and Dr. Muhammad Fauzi from Universitas Esa Unggul.
UPNVJ established the ULD as a centralized hub for accessibility services, academic assistance, outreach, and advocacy. The university aims to expand inclusive education practices and align with national accessibility standards. The new unit will coordinate priority initiatives such as a dedicated admissions pathway for students with disabilities, academic adjustments, and training for faculty on inclusive teaching methods. The unit will also oversee improvements in campus infrastructure, including accessible classrooms, library facilities, and mobility routes.
During the event, Angkie Yudistia emphasized the need for youth participation in strengthening disability inclusion in educational spaces. Dr. Joko Yuwono shared institutional insights on disability service management, while Dr. Muhammad Fauzi highlighted the importance of assistive technologies and adaptive learning approaches.
Rector Anter Venus stated that the ULD represents a key component of UPNVJ’s transformation toward a more equitable and human-centered academic environment. He added that collaboration with disability experts will continue through research initiatives, capacity-building programs, and innovative inclusion strategies.
UPNVJ officials plan to further expand the unit’s role to ensure that inclusive values are embedded in academic culture and campus life, enabling every student to participate fully and fairly. (www.upnvj.ac.id)
