Enviro News Asia, Jakarta — The Institute for Quality Assurance and Learning Development (LPMPP) of Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jakarta (UPNVJ) has strengthened lecturers’ capacity to implement student-centered learning by sending faculty members to the 2026 Active Learning in Higher Education Training Program (PAPT).
The two-day training, held on July 8–9 at the Directorate of Digital Education Development Building, Universitas Indonesia, was organized to enhance lecturers’ competencies in applying active learning approaches that place students at the center of the educational process. The UPNVJ delegation was led by Head of the Center for Learning Development, Dr. Ns. Arief Wahyudi Jadmiko.
Participants studied the principles of Student-Centered Learning (SCL) through lectures, group discussions, simulations, practical exercises, experience-sharing sessions, and the development of instructional designs that can be implemented in classrooms.
The first day focused on the philosophy of active learning and constructivist learning theory, emphasizing students’ roles as active learners who build knowledge through experience, interaction, reflection, and problem-solving. Participants also explored strategies for developing students’ critical thinking skills through constructive feedback and Socratic questioning techniques.
The training introduced several active learning methods, including Think–Pair–Share, Reciprocal Teaching, Fishbowl Discussion, Group Quiz, and Gallery Walk, enabling lecturers to create more interactive and collaborative learning environments.
Participants were also introduced to learning outcome assessment as an essential tool for measuring student achievement and continuously improving teaching strategies and learning experiences.
On the second day, the program covered advanced instructional approaches, including Role-Playing, Experiential Learning, Collaborative Learning, Problem-Based Learning (PBL), Project-Based Learning (PjBL), and Research-Based Learning (RBL). These approaches encourage lecturers to integrate real-world problems, collaborative projects, and research activities into classroom instruction.
Throughout the training, lecturers participated in active learning simulations by taking the role of students, allowing them to better understand the challenges and instructional strategies involved in implementing student-centered learning.
The program concluded with remarks from LPMPP Head Satria Yudhia Wijaya, who thanked the speakers, facilitators, organizing committee, and participants. Awards were presented to the Best Participant and Best Group in recognition of their active engagement throughout the training.
Following the program, participating lecturers are expected to promote active learning within their respective faculties by integrating the instructional designs developed during the training into Semester Learning Plans (RPS), classroom activities, assessment methods, and student engagement practices.
