Enviro News Asia, Jakarta – PT Pertamina (Persero) has officially launched its latest eco-friendly fuel, Diesel X, which meets Euro V standards. This fuel is the result of development by the Subholding Refining & Petrochemical PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional (KPI) at the Balongan Refinery Unit, Indramayu Regency, West Java.
It is considered environmentally friendly because this Ultra Low Sulphur Diesel (ULSD) has an extremely low sulfur content—less than 10 ppm—and meets Euro V standards.
“This product not only delivers high performance but also prioritizes fuel efficiency and lower emissions,” said Pertamina President Director Simon Aloysius Mantiri in a press release quoted on Friday (January 31, 2025). He stated that the launch of Diesel X is part of the company’s efforts to support the energy self-sufficiency program, which is a policy of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka’s administration.
Simon Aloysius explained that Diesel X is specifically designed to meet the needs of the industrial sector, particularly for heavy-duty vehicles in the mining sector. This is because the fuel can protect engines from corrosion and prevent fuel foaming, even at low temperatures.
This fuel is also believed to maintain optimal engine performance even under tough conditions, with an efficiency level of over 7 percent. Therefore, it is highly suitable for heavy vehicles in the mining and coal industries. Looking ahead, PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional (KPI) President Director Taufik Aditiyawarman stated that energy produced for heavy transportation will be cleaner, more efficient, and environmentally friendly for both society and the Indonesian industry.
Diesel X, produced at the Balongan Refinery, has a production capacity of 200,000 barrels per month. In the initial phase, 52,000 barrels have been delivered to meet industrial sector demands, including to PT Freeport Indonesia.
“With the use of Diesel X in the mining sector, we hope the industry will become more environmentally friendly, and the pollution generated will be significantly reduced,” said Simon.
In addition to Diesel X, Pertamina has also introduced other fuel products, such as Diesel B40 and Pertamina Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), which is made from used cooking oil (UCO).
