Perhutani Conducts Grand Rice Harvest in Agroforestry Area

Enviro News Asia, Jakarta – Perum Perhutani, in collaboration with State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) under the Project Management Office (PMO) for Food Self-Sufficiency, has conducted a grand rice harvest on a 227-hectare area in the Cikeusik Forest Management Unit (BKPH), Banten Forest Management Unit (KPH), Banten Province.

Perum Perhutani’s Director of Operations, Natalas Anis, stated that this large-scale harvest is a tangible contribution from Perum Perhutani, as one of the BUMN members of the PMO for Food Self-Sufficiency, in supporting President Prabowo’s Asta Cita Program.

“As one of the BUMN members of the PMO for Food Self-Sufficiency, Perum Perhutani contributes by providing land and farmers through the established Forest Village Community Institutions (LMDH),” said Natalas Anis in a press release on Wednesday (March 19, 2025).

The PMO Food Self-Sufficiency activities focus on several agroforestry areas managed by Perum Perhutani, integrating forestry and agricultural crops. One of the PMO Food project locations is in Cikeusik Village, Banten Province. Perhutani, together with other BUMN members of the PMO, has engaged approximately 450 farmers from three Forest Village Community Institutions (LMDH), covering a rice plantation area of around 227 hectares.

The harvest began on March 10, 2025, and is still ongoing. This large-scale rice harvest supports the implementation of the second pillar of President Prabowo Subianto’s Asta Cita, which states: “Strengthening the national defense and security system and promoting national self-sufficiency in food, energy, water, creative economy, green economy, and blue economy.”

As a demonstration of commitment and support from the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises (KBUMN) toward the Asta Cita program, the Ministry has issued Ministerial Decree No. SK-291/MBU/12/2024 on the Formation of the BUMN Support Acceleration Team for the Rice Self-Sufficiency Program.

The PMO Food Self-Sufficiency team involved in the project in Cikeusik Village is divided into three substreams:

  • Pre-Planting Substream, consisting of Perum Perhutani, PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero) Holding Company, and PT Sang Hyang Seri.
  • Agri Input, Planting, and Harvesting Substream, consisting of PT Sang Hyang Seri, PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero) Holding Company, and Perum Bulog.
  • Post-Harvest and Offtake Substream, consisting of Perum Bulog and PT Sang Hyang Seri.

This project has provided several benefits, including assisting and mentoring rice farmers in cultivation, educating farmers on the use of agricultural infrastructure, increasing rice/grain productivity in Cikeusik Village, and improving farmers’ incomes.

Before the PMO rice self-sufficiency intervention, rice productivity in Cikeusik ranged between 2.5 to 3 tons per hectare. After intervention, productivity increased to 5 tons per hectare—nearly doubling the previous yield. ***
