Enviro News Asia, Jakarta – The Pencak Silat Student Activity Unit (UKM) “Veteran” Jakarta (PSVJ) successfully won 28 medals at the Malang Championship 5 in 2025. The medals consisted of 12 gold, 6 silver, and 10 bronze.
The championship took place from July 19–20, 2025, at GOR Ken Arok, Malang, East Java, and was attended by nearly 200 participants from various public and private universities across Indonesia.
Participating campuses included Poltekkes Surabaya, Universitas Negeri Malang, Universitas Gadjah Mada, Universitas Trisakti, Universitas Dian Nuswantoro, Universitas Brawijaya, Universitas Muhammadiyah Sidoarjo, and several others.
The PSVJ team performed exceptionally, driven by a spirit of determination, sportsmanship, and high dedication. The team leader, Wahid, stated that this was the third time PSVJ participated in the same event.
“We have participated in this event twice before, in 2023 and 2024, and successfully won General Runner-up. In 2025, our biggest motivation was to seize the title of General Champion, and praise be to God, we achieved it,” Wahid said in an official statement on Friday (1/8/2025).
In preparation for the championship, the team conducted intensive training for two months.
Training started with a schedule of three times a week and increased to six times a week as the competition date approached.
Wahid explained that the athletes were divided into two teams, a sparring team and an artistic team, each receiving an equal portion of training.
“We competed in a total of 24 categories, consisting of 13 sparring categories and 11 artistic categories, which included Creative Solo, Single, Double, and Team Artistic events,” he added.
As a form of appreciation for their achievement, the Rector of UPNVJ, Prof. Dr. Anter Venus, MA, Comm, personally received the PSVJ team on Wednesday, July 23, 2025.
During the meeting, the UPNVJ Rector expressed his pride in the hard work of the young UPNVJ athletes.
“This achievement is the result of intensive training, hard work, and the support of all parties—the coaches, teammates, and our beloved campus. This proves that UPNVJ is consistent in producing talented athletes, especially in the traditional Indonesian martial art of pencak silat,” said Rector Venus.
This victory is not only a source of pride for the PSVJ team but also for the entire UPNVJ academic community.
Their spirit and hard work serve as an inspiration that students can excel not only in academics but also on the national sports stage. (www.upnvj.ac.id)
