Ministry of Forestry Holds 2025 PEH Symposium, Encourages Cross-Generational Synergy for Nature Conservation

Enviro News Asia, Jakarta – The Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia, through the Directorate General of Natural Resources and Ecosystem Conservation (KSDAE), held the Functional Position Symposium for Forest Ecosystem Managers (PEH) with the theme “Cross-Generational PEH Synergy: Joint Action to Preserve Nature.” The event took place in person in Jakarta and online, attended by participants from across Indonesia.

The activity was attended by Heads of Technical Implementation Units (UPT), echelon officials, representatives of the IPEHINDO professional organization, as well as more than 600 PEH from various central and regional work units.

Its aim was to strengthen the understanding of the role of PEH as the front line in forest ecosystem protection and management, while building cross-generational networks.

Secretary of the Directorate General of KSDAE, Amy Nurwanty, representing the Director General of KSDAE, Prof. Satyawan Pudyatmoko, emphasized the importance of cross-generational collaboration.

“Synergy among PEH and across generations will optimize our performance in protecting forest ecosystems. The PEH functional position is an important element, not only in the Ministry of Forestry but also in regional governments,” she said.

Amy stressed that the role of PEH encompasses technical capacity, managerial skills, and innovation.

She expressed her hope that promotions or rank advancements would be accompanied by improvements in competencies that have tangible impacts on the organization.

In addition, she encouraged IPEHINDO to expand its leadership to all provinces, as it is currently established in only eight provinces.

In the context of global challenges, Amy reminded that PEH plays a direct role in addressing the crises of climate change, pollution, and biodiversity loss.

“Biodiversity is not only found in conservation areas, but also in production forests, protected forests, and other land use areas. All require the active role of PEH in the field,” she explained.

This symposium was part of the series of events commemorating National Nature Conservation Day (HKAN) 2025, and served as a forum for sharing experiences, strengthening cross-generational collaboration, and formulating strategies to strengthen the PEH functional position in the future. (*)
