Planting 800 Mangrove Trees, Pertamina Consistently Maintains a Sustainable Environment

Enviro News Asia, Cilacap — PT Pertamina (Persero) planted 800 mangrove trees as part of its Sustainability Footprint #2 initiative at the Pertamina International Refinery Unit IV Cilacap.

The tree planting took place on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, in Kampoeng Kepiting, Lemah Leutik Village, Kutawaru, Central Cilacap District, Central Java.

Agung Wicaksono, Pertamina’s Director of Business Transformation & Sustainability, explained that Kampoeng Kepiting is a Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) program by Pertamina KPI, supported by the Pertamina Foundation. This TJSL program, known as MAMAKU (Self-Reliant Kutawaru Community), aims to foster economic independence and create a multiplier effect for the local community.

“We have planted 800 mangrove trees, which demonstrates how Pertamina restores carbon emissions from its operations by returning them to nature,” Wicaksono stated.

Pertamina is committed to sustainability through its Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles, ensuring that its operations benefit both the company and the environment.

Fadjar Djoko Santoso, Vice President of Corporate Communication at Pertamina, added that the MAMAKU program aligns with Pertamina’s efforts to support Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Climate Action (Point 13), and the government’s Asta Cita vision for improving rural community welfare.

Rato, Chairman of the MAMAKU Group, expressed gratitude to Pertamina Group for their comprehensive support, which included not only material aid but also training and mentoring to help the community achieve self-sufficiency.

“The MAMAKU program has significantly helped many residents economically. This TJSL program has greatly benefited us. Thank you, Pertamina,” Rato said.

Pertamina, a leader in energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by implementing programs that directly contribute to the SDGs and integrating ESG principles across all business lines. (*)
