Forestry Minister Distributes 17 Million Tree Seedlings

Enviro News Asia, Jakarta – The Ministry of Forestry has set a target of distributing 17 million free tree seedlings to communities throughout 2025. This major program was initiated by Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni as a concrete step toward restoring degraded lands while also improving community welfare.

“This seedling distribution program is not only about reforesting degraded lands, but also about providing direct economic benefits for local communities,” said Minister Raja Juli Antoni while handing over one thousand seedlings in Bogor, West Java, on Monday (September 8, 2025). The handover took place after the Minister inspected the Rumpin Nursery, one of the largest seedling production centers in Indonesia.

During the visit, Minister Raja Juli Antoni was accompanied by Deputy Minister of Forestry Sulaiman Umar, Secretary-General of the Ministry Mahfudz, and Director-General of Watershed Management and Forest Rehabilitation (PDASRH) Dyah Murtiningsih.

Currently, the Ministry of Forestry manages 54 permanent nurseries with an annual production capacity of 1 million seedlings, as well as 7 large-scale nurseries with capacities exceeding 5 million seedlings each. The total production target for 2025 is 17 million seedlings, funded through the state budget (10 million) and the Folu Net Sink 2030 program (7 million).

The seedlings distributed include a variety of species, from fruit trees such as avocado, mango, and durian, enabling communities to benefit not only environmentally but also economically through future harvests.

“The utilization of the Rumpin Nursery and others is a tangible reflection of President Prabowo Subianto’s directive, ensuring that forests are preserved while being optimized for the welfare of the people,” emphasized Raja Juli Antoni. (*)
