COP30 Presidency Launches Global Mutirão Platform to Amplify Climate Action

Enviro News Asia, Brazilian – The Brazilian Presidency of COP30 launched the official Global Mutirão platform today as part of the COP30 website, providing a new digital space to unite and amplify climate action worldwide. Inspired by Brazil’s ancestral traditions of collective solidarity, the initiative calls on individuals, communities, and institutions to scale up practical climate solutions ahead of COP30 in Belém.

The Global Mutirão takes its name from the Tupi-Guarani concept of “mutirão,” meaning a collective, self-organized effort to support one another in times of need. The platform encourages people to contribute to climate implementation through actions that reflect their own capacities, contexts, and priorities.

Ambassador André Corrêa do Lago, President-Designate of COP30, said the Global Mutirão is a space where diverse efforts can be recognized and expanded. “The Global Mutirão is a call to everyone, not just to speak about change, but to be the change,” he noted. “We know that millions of people are already protecting their communities and ecosystems. This initiative provides a unifying space for those actions to be seen, supported, and scaled.”

The launch comes as the Global Stocktake reveals the urgent need to accelerate climate action under the Paris Agreement. Anchored in the six axes of the COP30 Action Agenda—from clean energy to resilient cities—the Global Mutirão offers citizens and organizations an accessible entry point to align with the UN climate process.

Ana Toni, CEO of COP30, emphasized the importance of grassroots engagement. “Adaptation begins in communities, with the people who are already living the realities of climate change,” she said. “When local actions are connected and supported, they create ripple effects that influence systems and policies.”

To mark the launch, two global mobilizations will demonstrate the platform’s power in action. On September 20, World Cleanup Day will mobilize communities across Brazil and worldwide to tackle waste and pollution. On September 22, World Car-Free Day will reimagine urban mobility by encouraging walking, cycling, and public transport to highlight low-carbon alternatives.

These initiatives form part of the #MutiraoCOP30 movement, underscoring that the path to COP30 in Belém runs through everyday actions in neighborhoods, schools, and public spaces. (*)
