Prabowo and King Charles III Strengthen Environmental Diplomacy Through Elephant Conservation

Enviro News Asia, London — President of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto attended the Peusangan Elephant Conservation Philanthropy Meeting at Lancaster House in London on Wednesday, 21 January 2026, reaffirming Indonesia’s commitment to advancing international cooperation on wildlife conservation and environmental protection.

Upon arrival, President Prabowo was welcomed by Indonesia’s Special Presidential Envoy for Energy and Environment, Hashim Djojohadikusumo, and the UK Minister for Equalities, Seema Malhotra. He received an official honor guard before proceeding to the venue.

President Prabowo later met with King Charles III in the State Dining Room, where the two leaders held a brief exchange ahead of the main programme.

The President and the King were briefed on the Peusangan Elephant Conservation initiative by Marc Palahi, Chief Executive Officer of the Circular Bioeconomy Alliance, before joining the final session of the meeting in the Grand Hall.

The philanthropic forum had taken place throughout the day, with the attendance of President Prabowo and King Charles III marking the closing segment. Indonesian officials present included Minister of Forestry Raja Juli Antoni, Minister of Environment Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, Member of Parliament Budi Djiwandono, and Indonesia’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom Desra Percaya.

During the event, President Prabowo and King Charles III engaged directly with participants, underscoring strong political and moral support for the Peusangan Elephant Conservation programme and broader international partnerships on biodiversity protection.

The conservation initiative aims to establish safe wildlife corridors, mitigate human–elephant conflict, and protect remaining habitats of the Sumatran elephant, while promoting forest restoration and community-based conservation.

President Prabowo’s participation reflects Indonesia’s broader strategy to strengthen global collaboration on wildlife protection and to position environmental diplomacy as a core pillar of the country’s sustainable development agenda. (*)
