Enviro News Asia, Jakarta — PT Pertamina (Persero) continues to strengthen its sustainability culture by empowering employees, known as “Perwira Pertamina,” to drive environmental, social, and governance (ESG) initiatives across its operations.
This commitment was highlighted during the Pertamina Sustainability Champion event held in Jakarta on April 16, 2026, which combined innovation appreciation with discussions on sustainability in national energy resilience.
Corporate Secretary Arya Dwi Paramita stated that sustainability has become an integral part of Pertamina’s business strategy to maintain competitiveness amid the global energy transition. The company is implementing a dual growth strategy, focusing on optimizing existing businesses while developing low-carbon initiatives.
These include projects such as Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS), Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage (CCUS), and Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), aimed at reducing emissions and supporting cleaner energy solutions.
Senior Vice President Business Sustainability Wenny Ipmawan emphasized that Pertamina has established 10 sustainability focus areas covering environmental, social, and governance aspects, while encouraging employees to act as agents of change.
The initiative also promotes energy efficiency and responsible consumption, aligning with broader efforts to strengthen national energy security and support Indonesia’s Net Zero Emission 2060 target.
Experts, including Maria R. Nindita, highlighted that innovation and behavioral change are essential to addressing energy challenges, noting that efficient energy use can serve as a strong example for wider society. (*)
