Zambia and GGGI Sign Agreement to Accelerate Inclusive Green Growth

Enviro News Asia, Seoul — The Government of the Republic of Zambia has signed a Host Country Agreement (HCA) with the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) to strengthen cooperation in advancing inclusive and sustainable green growth.

The agreement was signed in Seoul on 24 April 2026 on the sidelines of the GGGI Spring Annual Meeting. The Zambian government was represented by Ambassador Andrew Banda, while GGGI was represented by its Executive Director Sanghyup Kim.

The agreement formalizes GGGI’s legal status in Zambia and strengthens the institutional framework for collaboration between both parties. It aims to support Zambia in delivering its climate commitments and green growth priorities, including the implementation of its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).

Ambassador Andrew Banda stated that the partnership would enhance Zambia’s capacity to implement transformative solutions that promote sustainable economic development while protecting the environment for future generations.

Sanghyup Kim emphasized that advancing Zambia’s climate agenda is essential for building an inclusive and resilient economy. He noted that the agreement provides an opportunity to accelerate country-led solutions and support Zambia’s transition to a low-carbon development pathway.

Since 2022, GGGI has worked closely with Zambia, which became a member state in 2023. The collaboration has supported several initiatives, including the development of the National Green Growth Index, the National Green Growth Strategy, carbon market mechanisms under Article 6, and the establishment of an integrated Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (iMRV) system.

The new agreement is expected to enhance joint planning and implementation of green growth programs while improving Zambia’s ability to mobilize climate finance and attract green investments. (*)
